The Movements Trust exists to enable a better flow of funding down to grassroots, which is why we are partnering with Roots and the Climate Justice Camp to develop a pooled fund that we hope can grant to many incredible initiatives from the participants of the camp.
We have begun actively fundraising across the network to seek contributions and donations from foundations and individuals. We aim to keep filling the 'pot' until 31st October 2023 (with the possibility of extending until 31st December 2023). We are unsure how much we will be able to raise for this pilot, but we know that every penny will make a difference to the work of movements in their communities.
We want to work with participants from the camp to co-develop an application process that is accessible.
Then, in the New Year, we want to open the fund to the participants of the camp to apply for grants.
We hope to have an informal approach to collecting impact stories and harvesting outcomes which we aim to present at the Climate Justice Camp 2024. If we can make this pilot a success, we may be able to scale up the fund for following years.
Some discussion points:
If you have ideas on how to develop the grant allocation process, please share them. We will publicize a zoom call when we're ready to begin co-developing the process.
If you have ideas on how we can fundraise, please share them. We welcome any input as we see this as a partnership to shift philanthropy.
If you have any ideas on scope, priorities, or issue areas, please share them.
If people are interested in helping - I could share a target list of linkedin funders and we could outreach to them with an ask that they consider donating to the pooled fund?
